Ikebana originates from conversations with plants. If you get attuned to vibrant flowers and envision how you can show them to their advantage, your heart will resonate with the flowers making sensational waves. Sogetsu Ikebana connects plants with people, and people with people bringing peace of mind and creating happiness.

The Sogetsu School was founded in 1927 by Sofu Teshigahara. It created its own new styles breaking away from the classic styles and emphasizing freedom of expression, while still conforming to some of the criteria of traditional Ikebana. Some of the innovations of the Sogetsu School are the creation of arrangements without containers, the use of withered plants and materials, the development of free-style forms, the use of artificial materials and , in general , the development of the concept of the unity of flower arrangements with sculpture. Ikebana of this School may be defined as sculpture with flowers.
